In 2013, President Xi Jinping proposed the "Belt and Road" initiative at Nazarbayev University in Astana. Since then, economic ties between China, Kazakhstan, and other route countries have grown rapidly. Kazakhstan’s strategic role in Central Asia has become increasingly clear. To facilitate economic, sports, and cultural exchanges, the Kazakhstan-China International Economic Development Center was established.
Kazakhstan China International Economic Development Center was established on June 4, 2019, as an independent legal entity registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Chinese Chairman is Mr. Song Jianlin (Founder). The Kazakh Chairman is Mr. Zhambyl Akhmetbekov (former Secretary General of the Communist People’s Party of Kazakhstan). The Lifetime Honorary Chairman is Mr. Yuan Xikun (former member of the National Committee of the CPPCC).
